WELCOME LUCAS

Well, after another semi-eventful pregnancy...we welcomed our son, Lucas Andrew on Thursday, November 6th, 2008 at 12:14 pm.  He was 7lbs 12 oz. and 20 inches long.  He was exactly 1lb. and 1 inch bigger than Lilly.  I did have the same "end problem" pregnancy.  I was fine until 25 weeks, when I went to a regular check up and found that I was 2 cm dialated.  I didn't have to be life flighted this time.  I was able to go home and get my things, wait for Steve to get home from work and drive ourselves to the hospital.  I only had to be in for a few days, with the agreement that I would be on bed rest...flat on my back bedrest until I reached 35 weeks!  I took that deal in a heartbeat.  I stayed at my Grams with Lilly during the week and she waited on us hand and foot!  I felt really bad, but she loved having us!  We stayed home with Steve on the weekends and he did a pretty good job at taking care of me...he did wonderful with Lilly!  I made it to 38 weeks and 1 day.  I did have to have an amniocenthesis done with him the day I went in for them to induce me.  My cervix was so thinned out they were afraid I'd go into labor and deliver at home (or in the car) because of the short labor I had with Lilly.  (I'm not thinking Steve would have liked that at all!)  They did the amnio to make sure his lungs were completely developed before inducing me that morning.  That was one of the most awful things I've ever had to do.  I've heard from many, that it's no big deal and doesn't hurt...well good for them, but NOT the case with me!  There wasn't any place, but right basically in my rib cage to take the fluid.  The pressure was terrible.  I could feel the "pop" when the the needle entered the amniotic sac.  To make matters worse, it was "student nursing day" and of course I had 7 extra sets of eyes, plus their teacher, my Dr., 2 nurses, the sonogram tech, and Steve all in there.  That made me all the more nervous!  It took about 1 hour to get those results back, then the induction started!  They started the pitocin at about 10:00.  I did arrange ahead of time to have an epidural this time.  The only reason I wanted it, was to determine what the difference was since my delivery with Lilly was 100% natural.  I guess you could just call it curiosity.  I got the epidural at about 11:15.  I was definately feeling those contractions!  The epidural was no big deal at all, didn't feel a thing!  It did help with the pain of the contractions.  The Dr. then broke my water at 11:40am.  After that, I might as well not had an epidural because the pain became very intense!  I don't know that I would opt to do that again? I started pushing at about 12:05...3 pushes later at 12:14 Lucas arrived!  All in all, to have both of my deliveries just over 30 minutes was a blessing!  (Guess it's a good thing I was induced because it's a 35-40 minute drive to the hospital!)  I just can't belive that almost 10 months has gone by since that precious day!  Luke is already crawling, pulling himself up and walking along furniture, feeding himself finger foods and of course exploring this big world he is discovering and is into EVERYTHING!  I am trying to cherish every moment I can!  I know before I know it, he'll be 3 and starting preschool too!
