SURGERY

Before...

As some of you know, Luke has had clogged tear ducts in his eyes since birth.  His eyes (mainly the right one) would run a lot and many mornings the right one would be matted shut and VERY hard to get open!  The problem has gone on long enough and finally had to be corrected.

He had to be at the hospital at 6:30 yesterday morning.  After arriving, they did all of his vitals, we got him changed into a gown and they gave him a little medicine to help him relax and get a little sleepy...yeah, that lasted about 25 mins!  Then of course we had to wait!  We were amazed that our "big" little man went right to the nurse, turned and waved to Steve and I and said "buh bye"!  Wow, did that make it easier on everyone!  I was dreading that moment, fearing that he would throw a fit, but I guess our little social bug was ready to make some new "friends"!  The nurses were all commenting on how when he got back to the surgery room that he was "talking" to all the nurses and doctors!  What a little charmer we have!  They didn't put the I.V. in until after he was asleep, so when he woke up, that's about the only thing he had a problem with.  When he came back to the room, he just wanted me to hold him and rock him, while he slept off the rest of the anesthesia for about an hour...of course I was more than happy to do so!

The Dr. said the left eye was easy, but she did have some trouble getting through the right one.  The surgery took about 30mins longer than expected...which of course made us really nervous!  She said there was lots of clogging and some bone in the way that she had to work through on the right side.

Luke took a long nap yesterday and slept in this morning, but he's doing really well.  He's rubbing his eyes a lot, I think they burn?  He is also pretty out of sorts...not sure if it's the anesthetic or pain, but he's kind of crabby, and wants to cuddle a little more than usual!  I'm extremely glad that my job was gracious enough to give me 3 days off, so I could be home with him while he recovers!

Daddy trying to help entertain...who gives a
20 month a cell phone to play with haha!
...It ended up on the floor with the battery and
back of the phone across the room!

The meds were starting to kick in a LITTLE.

Look at our little champ...
I couldn't get one of his face, but he was smiling the whole way :)

After...
Sleepy little boy.

He wanted lots of kisses and cuddles...

  1. What a brave little guy! I'm sure the whole process was harder on you than it was on him. I'm glad he's on his way to recovery :)
