LILLY'S PARADE

Lilly had a parade at her school and we helped her make the float.  It was a project that her teachers wanted us to be able to do together.  I have to commend her school for doing things like that!  They feel it is really important for the parents to be "in" on what the kids are doing.  I LOVE that and think it is so important!  I feel like so much of "that" is lost these days.  So many children don't have parents that are "there" for them and it makes me so sad.  Steve and I love to do things with our kids, and I love to express my creative side so this project was awesome!

The theme was actually called the "Teddy Bear Parade", but it's actually just for them to create a float for their favorite stuffed animal.  Lilly LOVES a monkey she got a couple of years ago for Christmas, so we kind of just "went with it".  We went to the dollar store and there was tons of tropical party stuff.  I was actually surprised at how into it Lilly got.  She usually doesn't stick with anything too long, but her and I really had fun with this!  We started with a Pampers diaper box and covered it with brown packaging paper.  Then we glued on the grass skirt.  I found a couple of palm trees and we taped those in the bottom of the box...yikes, did she go crazy with the tape, ha!  I had some 3D stickers of bugs, so of course she had to stick those on the trees, because "bugs live in trees, Mom"!  We also got out my Cricket, scrapbooking "cutting" machine...she LOVES to press buttons!  So we cut out a few jungle animals to add.  We had to trim part of the grass skirt because it was to long.  I thought it was garbage, but oh no...she made a nest for the Monkey!  It was a neat project and I really had fun watching her get so creative.  Maybe she's gonna be a scrapbook-aholic (is that a word?) like her mama?
